What are some facial disorders?

The facial disorder is a disorder that happens on your face, causing it to look abnormal. Since it involves the face, some people think that this disorder is a serious health problem. While this is actually a true statement, however not all facial disorders are dangerous or life-threatening. Some of them can be temporary. There are a lot of causes that can cause facial disorders such as infection, injury, congenital problem or trauma. The problems usually arise when the facial nerves are affected. Facial nerves are nerves that control our face expression. If any of these nerves is damaged, then some part of your face cannot function normally. So, it is important for you to know more about this condition so that it will not develop any future complications. 1. Bell’s palsy

Bell’s palsy is a facial disorder where you might experience muscle weakness in one side of your face. People with Bell’s palsy often experience other symptoms such as drooling of saliva, unable to fully smile, facial drop, inability to make facial expressions and also face paralysis. Usually, it comes suddenly. However, do not worry because this condition is temporary and will improve with time. This condition can also affect any age and experts still do not know the exact cause. Some think that it was caused by a viral infection that causes inflammation to the affected nerve. This disorder also mimics a stroke episode, a disorder that can be life-threatening. So, if you are experiencing these symptoms, make sure to meet your doctor as soon as possible in order to get the correct treatment. With gentle care, your symptoms will take weeks to improve and usually takes around 6 months to fully recover.

2. Stroke

This is one of the most common facial disorders. Stroke happens when the blood supply to your brain is compromised, causing the brain cells to die within minutes. When this happens, your brain is unable to control parts of your body and you will experience the stroke symptoms that include paralysis or your face, arm and also leg. Some of the stroke patients also experience headache, vision disturbance, drooling of saliva, difficulty eating, difficulty to speak and also trouble walking. Stroke is a medical emergency, meaning that anyone that experiences stroke’s symptoms needs to be brought to the emergency department as soon as possible. This is very important in order to avoid any further complications. Thanks to the advancement in technology nowadays, we managed to reduce the number of strokes in our country.

3. Lyme disease

This is an infection that is so common, especially in Europe and American countries. It is caused by an insect called a tick. Ticks that carry borrelia bacteria might bite you and inject this bacteria into your skin. Once you are infected, you will experience the symptoms of Lyme disease. At first, a rash like mosquito bite will appear on your skin. Then, you might experience symptoms of muscle weakness in one or both sides of your face, stiff neck, headache, muscle or joint pain, and also extreme tiredness. If you suspect that you are having Lyme disease’s symptom, then it is a good thing to meet your doctor as quickly as you can. If you are worried about this disease, make sure you avoid or wear enough protection when you are around tick’s area such as brushy, grassy and wooded areas.
